Cursive Fonts on Roblox: Display Names & What Gets Filtered
Roblox has no font setting — cursive names are Unicode pasted into your free display name. What works, what the chat filter tags, and what breaks the rules.
Roblox has no cursive font setting. The script-style names you see above players' heads are Unicode text — characters that look like cursive handwriting but behave like ordinary letters — pasted into the Display Name field, which is free to change and accepts full Unicode up to 20 characters. You make the text with a free cursive text generator, copy a style, and paste it into your display name or profile About section. The one place it does not work as people expect is in-game chat: Roblox filters chat text for safety, and styled characters there are usually replaced with hashtags. This guide covers exactly where cursive text works on Roblox, where it gets filtered, and how to stay inside the rules.

Put a cursive name on Roblox in three steps
- Generate the text. Open the free cursive text generator, type your name, and scroll the style list. The preview updates as you type, so you compare styles on your exact name.
- Copy a style. Tap the copy button on the look you want — every style copies with one tap.
- Paste it into your Display Name. On the Roblox app or website, go to Settings → Account Info → Display Name, paste, and save. The styled name appears above your head in games, in chat, and on your profile — while your plain @username stays untouched underneath.
Two things to know before you commit: display name changes are free, but you can only change the display name once every seven days, and the field counts every styled character toward its 20-character limit — 𝓡𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓸𝔁 is six characters, not one word of decoration.
Display name vs. username: the rule that decides everything
Roblox accounts carry two names, and only one of them can be styled:
| Username (@name) | Display Name | |
|---|---|---|
| Character limit | 3–20 characters | 20 characters |
| Allowed characters | Letters, numbers, one underscore | Full Unicode, spaces, capitalization |
| Unique | Yes, platform-wide | No — many players can share one |
| Cost to change | 1,000 Robux | Free |
| How often | With Robux | Once every 7 days |
The username is your login identity and must stay plain — letters, numbers, and a single underscore that can't sit at the start or end. The display name exists purely for how you appear in-game, which is exactly why Roblox lets it carry Unicode: it's cosmetic, it's not used to find or log into your account, and styling it changes nothing about your account security.
Where cursive text works on Roblox (and where it gets filtered)

| Field | Cursive works? | Limit | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display Name | Yes | 20 characters | Your styled in-game name |
| Profile About (bio) | Yes | 1,000 characters | A styled first line, plain text after |
| Group descriptions | Mostly | — | Filter-checked; common styles pass |
| In-game chat | No | — | Filter replaces styled text with # |
| Username (@name) | No | 3–20 characters | Plain letters, numbers, one underscore |
| Group names | No | 50 characters | Roblox blocks Unicode here |
Two of those "no" rows trip people up, so here's the detail.
In-game chat. Roblox filters every chat message before anyone sees it, replacing flagged text with hashtags — and that filtering extends to unusual Unicode. A message written entirely in script characters is often unrecognizable to the filter, so it gets tagged as #### on arrival, especially on accounts set to under-13, which run stricter filtering. Important: converting text into fancy characters specifically to slip words past the filter is against Roblox's Community Standards and can get your account moderated. Styled text is for names and profiles, not for dodging chat safety.
Group names. Roblox no longer accepts Unicode in group names — decorative characters are rejected at save time. Group descriptions still pass through the filter and usually accept common styles, but test before renaming a whole group.
The cursive styles that hold up on Roblox
Every style the generator produces is real Unicode text. These five read especially well at Roblox's name sizes — the samples are live text, so you can copy them straight from this page:
- Bold Cursive — 𝓡𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓸𝔁 — the classic look, stays legible above a player's head
- Cursive Script — ℛℴ𝒷𝓁ℴ𝓍 — thinner and more handwritten
- Bold Serif — 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐱 — clean weight when you want readable over decorative
- Small Caps — ʀᴏʙʟᴏx — subtle, mixes cleanly into longer names
- Sans — 𝖱𝗈𝖻𝗅𝗈𝗑 — modern and neutral, matches the blocky game aesthetic
These come from the Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric block, which has the widest device support of any styled set — it matters on Roblox, where your name renders on everything from school Chromebooks to gaming PCs. More exotic decoration sets from the fancy text generator can show as empty boxes (□) on older machines, and a name full of boxes defeats the purpose.
Five ready-to-paste Roblox names
All of these fit inside the 20-character display name budget with room to spare:
- 𝓝𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽𝓸𝔀𝓵 — Bold Cursive, 8 of 20 characters
- ▄▀▄ 𝕬𝖝𝖑 ▄▀▄ — the Crown decoration around Gothic, 11 of 20
- ★彡 𝕄𝕠𝕠𝕟 彡★ — the Stars wrap around Double-Struck, 10 of 20
- 𝓟𝓻𝓸𝓖𝓪𝓶𝓮𝓻𝓚𝓪𝓲 — Bold Cursive with an inner capital, 11 of 20
- 𝓚𝓪𝓲 — Bold Cursive on a short name, 3 of 20, the safest option
Keep the styled name short. The 20-character budget is counted in characters, not words, and decorations like borders eat it fast — ★彡 … 彡★ costs six characters before your name even starts.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make my Roblox username cursive?
No. The unique @username accepts only letters, numbers, and a single underscore, and it can't be changed without paying 1,000 Robux. Cursive styling goes in the Display Name — free, changeable once a week, and shown everywhere players see you in-game.
Does changing my display name to cursive cost Robux?
No. Display name changes are free; the only limits are 20 characters and one change every seven days. Username changes are the ones that cost 1,000 Robux, and they can't carry Unicode anyway.
Why does cursive text turn into hashtags in Roblox chat?
Roblox filters every chat message for safety and replaces flagged content with #. Unusual Unicode often can't be matched against the filter's word lists, so the whole message gets tagged — and on under-13 accounts the filter runs even stricter. Converting text into fancy characters to get around the filter breaks the Community Standards and risks account moderation.
Is cursive text allowed on Roblox, or is it a bannable mod?
Cursive text in your display name and profile is allowed — it's ordinary Unicode characters, not a mod, exploit, or third-party software. What's not allowed is using styled characters to bypass the chat filter or to impersonate another player. Style the name, keep the conduct clean.
Will cursive characters show up as boxes on Roblox?
On very old devices, possibly. A box appears when the viewer's fonts lack a glyph for a character. The Mathematical Alphanumeric styles used above have the broadest coverage — every mainstream phone, tablet, and computer renders them — but exotic decoration sets can fail on school Chromebooks and older Android devices. Test your name on a second device before the seven-day cooldown locks it in.
Style your Roblox name
Open the cursive text generator, type your name, and copy a style into your display name. It's free, runs in the browser, and needs no sign-up. For the same trick on other platforms, see our guides for TikTok, WhatsApp, and Discord.
